Modify Starting System

I bought a truck that the key cylinder was removed because it was faulty. They put in a push button to start it, but you have to remove both batter cables and one on the alternator to shut the truck off. How can I rig a switch in the dash to turn the engine off?

You need to figure out what they did before you can fix or modify it. Originally you had a ignition switch mounted on top of the column, underneath the dash. You can take the u-hanger loose that holds the column to the dash, and let the column drop down to see it better.

There are lots of wires, and one of them is red/blue. This is the crank or start wire that they probably modified. There are several other wires there, so you need to write down the colors of all the wires, and where they go, so we can figure out what in the world they did to it.
