Clutch and Balancer Options
Am making progress on build out of the 223... found some larger exhaust valves today that will help her exhale as well as she inhales.
But I've done a search here and cant seem to get to anything on a harmonic balancer option (mine is center rotted) and on adding a power steering pully. Is there a good source for a new HB? Would one from another application work as long as it was close in weight and had the same crank diameter? Has anybody added power steering to their 223 and what did they/you use to drive the pump?
Second question if you dont mind a two-fer post, has to do with clutches. The books all call for a 10" clutch disk, but I noticed in certain applications an 11" was optional. With some extra ponies and torque from the motor bay, should I go with a larger than stock/standard clutch set-up? If so, any recommendations on good sources for quality domestic made parts?
Thanks in advance for any and all replies.
Brian
Is my only option finding someone who has a spare or to have someone rebuild (vulcanize?) my stock balancer?
Anybody play with upgrading their clutch on a 223 inline and their 3 speed?
Anybody?
Fits: ALL 1954/63 223 I-6 cars & trucks.
You might contact FTE sponsor Green Sales (800-543-4959), they don't have it, but they may be able to locate one.
I doubt its really worth going with the 11" unless you do alot of low end pulling, and you may get a very different feel on the clutch due to the different pressur plate. I prefer the feel of my old 10" arrangement.
