I have an unknown brand Fiberglass bed cap on my 2005
Explorer Sport Trac, truck purchased two months ago. The bed cap installer removed the factory tie downs & replaced with a "lowered version" so the cap could be closed. My question is: do the tie down screws thread into a sub-plate under the factory bed liner, or are they fastened thru a plate & held with a "nut & washer"?. I need to remove the screws & de-rust them & re-paint black. ( Check the photo on the "galleries" page to see the cap ).
I am enjoying my "First Truck", & am a FORD man from
way back...trading my 1997 T-Bird for this ride !.

ReAX..........Thanks for the info, I think I will try just one screw to see if its the same. I did not want to drop off lock nuts under the factory bed liner & have to remove all that other STUFF to put back as before. GAGDAD
I had a pup of a time getting my tie-down bolts out. ('97 F-150)
They were threaded into brackets on the outside of the inner wall of the bed.
(you can see if you crawl under).
BUT, they twist off really easy.
I learned to spray "PB BLASTER" on both ends of the bolts, & turn them just a little each day,(both ways).
I only twisted one off.
Good Luck!

narski65............Thanks for the reply. My tie downs were replaced with a "Low Mount" type to fit under the fiberglass bed cover that "wraps over" the bed sides. I want to remove the shorter screws that the installer of the "Low Mount" tie downs used & replace with stainless steel or just re-paint with a anti-rust primer & black paint. Will post back & let everyone know what happened.......G
