Tail light conversion (Seperate turn signals)

Truck is in the signature. It's a 1989 Ford F350 that's had the bed removed and the frame cut right behind the cab. Several feet of metal beam were welded in and a 3 piece driveshaft was installed. All wiring was extended in a similar fashion. An eighteen foot flat steel platform was welded on...

On a crew cab vehicle that adds up to a whopping 31 feet of vehicle... The two red lamps at the rear are NOT ADEQUATE in my opinion for visibility.

I would like to have independant yellow turn signals at the rear as well as splice my sidemarker/clearance lights into this so that flanking drivers that are not in a position to see my rear end can see that I am attempting to change lanes.

In addition, a center, high mounted brake light either on a light bar on the roof of the cab or in the rear window of the cab would be nice.

I know this should be theoretically possible, as the brake signal shuts down the cruise control. The turnsignals up front are independant of the brake lights. So I do have access to all signals independantly.

I'd like to be able to wire this up without running more than one or two wires the full length of the truck. Perhaps with some minor rewiring under the dashboard. Would this be possible?

Thanks.

It's definitely possible, but may not be practical. You are adding considerably more load to the circuit than it was originally designed for. It should be OK since we run trailer lights from the stock harness, but you never know.

The hardest part would be the third brake light. The brake pedal does deactivate the CC, but it does it with a vacuum switch, not electrical. There are always diodes.......

I think I would be tempted to use a dual filament bulb in all locations and just wire it in parallel with the existing park lights/tail lights. That would give you normal lightning anytime the lights are on and brighter lights while turning. If you wire the turn signals to the front lights they won't all come on when you hit the brakes.

Why dont you just use the trailer circuits?

you will need to run one wire from the brake light
switch before it goes to the steering column
and two wires from the steering column that run
the front turn signals to the rear of the truck
I would get a trailer wire harness that has 4 wires together
and are color coded to get the signals the way you want them
