Carb Questions
I read alot about Holley and Edlebrock carbs and which is better for what. I ahve a 352 in a 55 F-250 that I am restoring for a daily driver. Would it be wordt while to rebuilt the original Motorcraft, or should I spend the money for something different. The engine gives me all the power I want as is, it just needs a bit of refresher after being parked for the last ten years.
Yeah what Hypoid said. :)
I'm really into Motorcraft 2100 carburetors so don't hesitate to ask a dumb question or better yet, try to tell me something new, either way, will be cool. :)
I've had lots of my dumb questions answered, so no reason for me to get snooty toward any of yours. ;)

yea those Motorcraft 2V's are awesome little carbs. VERY simple, and they work. and if you were to switch to a 4V, I'd go holley. They are very similar to the motorcraft, and you can use the same jets in holley's and motorcrafts.
In my opinion, I like the Holley. The stock Autolites are okay, but I'm not a fan of them. No matter if you have 2v or 4v, I'd use a Holley......but that's me. I've got THREE FE powered vehicles with 2x4 Holleys on them!
Like trucks, everyone has their favorite brand.

I'm kinda partial to Holleys myself, have three-plus on the bench. I have enough extra parts now, I need to stay away from the core bin at the J-Y. That doesn't mean I'm all fired up to fix something that works, but the time is coming when the old 2100 just won't fit the bill.
OK, I'm gonna say it: Size really does matter! Just not in the way advertising people want you to think. If you run out and buy a 500 cfm 2 barrel carb to putter around town with, you won't be very happy. It won't matter who makes the product if it's a poor match for your intended use.
Oh...I got a woman and she enjoys fast rides!! Even slow ones(in the Mack).
Luckily all my stuff came around before the woman did. Can't complain then LOL!
She wants the blower car to be an automatic so SHE can race it!!!!
(She never learned to drive stick-though I've tempted to teach her)
I kinda have to agree on the 500cfm being not good for town use. The bore size will make it a bit lazy on throttle response. It's the one reason I stuck the 750 on my 352. The primary side(basically a 375cfm 2bbl) works pretty well and is responsive(snappy). I don't care the fact it can't get enough wind in it to actually open the secondaries.

Asked what carburetor I should buy before getting my engine tested they said "None. We can get the 2100 working as good as any and with less effort than most. We like them, we can get good power out of them"
So I messed with my 2100 along with several others from the scrap yard.
Found a difference between my emulsion tubes and 1/4 of the others out there. They were kind of divided between newer and older, the older ones having the less common but more typical-looking emulsion tubes.
(I need to take some pictures, that's in the works)
Swapped out the whole booster assembly since they really are all the same (2100 type) except for the emulsion tubes and other jetting, mostly the low speed circuit's stuff. That booster woke my 360 right up! :)
Called the dynamometer shop and told them what I found and he said "That's it. You figured it out :) that's our modification, we solder up the holes and drill new ones"
More experience on my part would go a -long- way here. :)
But for this dumb guy, at least I'm on the right track and still experimenting. :)
I have a Holly (2100/2150 direct replacement) with worn throttle shaft bores... I need to set it on there and try it. :) Tell you the truth, forgot about it until just now. :)

The last few Autolite 2100's I've had, had hot start problems. Replaced both with a Holley 500 2bbl and the problems disappeared. Best 2 bbl I've ever run. And I've had three of these in 30 years of 4 different stock engines (302, 2 390's and a 400M). Only thing about em for around the town running is the 50 cc accellerator pump, that doesn't contribute to fuel economy, but it DOES give it the get and go.
