Cam replacement

I'm planning on buyin an 83 ford bronco with a windsor in it......I don't know how stock the motor is as of yet but I will when I tear it down to bare block to put all new gaskets in it.....anyways...when the previous owner had the engine built....they put a cam with a cast iron distributor gear into it and tried to mate it to a steel geared distributor...apparently it sheared off two of the teeth on the cam...I didn't know that was possible...Is it?or should I be looking for another issue? But, when I replace the cam and whatever else, it won't be completely stock when I get done with it.I'm going to put an edelbrock 650 cfm on it along with a mild cam.....my question is....this is going to be strictly a play truck so i want a cam with good torque and mid range to keep the wheels spinning....what cam should I get...not a real cam info kind of guy or engine building but you gimme the parts and I'll put it together the right way.So, what kind of specs shouldI be looking for in a cam to achieve what i want done with it.The rest of the truck will be backed up by a c-6 tranny and god only knows what t-case(did they run BG or NP????)along with a ford9 inch and D44 IFS front.I'mgonna start with modding the motor and work my way down to the axles and eventually the tranny.Any ideas and tips or wutever are appreciated.Let me know opinions on the cam.......I'mlooking for a good combo...Thanks.
