I own a 2004 f250. Currently i have a 10" wide rim with -30mm offset and a 4.375 backspacing. running 315/75/16 tires. Problem being is the tries stick way farther out than i would like. If i went with a 8" wide rim and -4mm offset and a 4.25 backspace, and same tires, would this bring me back inside the wheel wells? if not, what size wheel width, offset and backspacing would i need to keep the same tires and be inside the well? This stuff is soooo confusing to me! Thanks!
Your running about as little backspacing as you can get away with. In fact I can't believe you're not rubbing the heck out of your springs, fender and wheel wells. The problem is that running a 12" wide tire (which is about as narrow as the tire is going to be on an 8" rim) needs that backspacing to clear all of those components. You're next best option would be to extend the fenders out via Bushwackers or some other fender flare.
Also, to add i have a 4" lift kit installed......i just want to know if i can get the wheels to sit in a little bit, and by having the 8" wide rim will that help at all with a different backspacing and offset?
Your best bet to figure this out is to have someone turn the wheel all the way to the left and see how much room there is between the tire and the sping. If it looks like there is plenty of room then you probably could get away with the narrower rim. If it is close to rubbing then going to a narrower rim will probably cause rubbing. You could get rid of the rubbing by adjusting the steering stops but that will increase your turning radius which I am not sure you want to do.
I am pretty sure that you would end up with rubbing issues if you switched to an 8" rim. You best bet is probably fender flares like EnviroCon mentioned. Check out Bushwacker, and ATS for a few different widths and styles.
Factory 18X8 wheels on a '04 have a backspacing of 4.80" and a offset of 0.25". I run 35X12.50R18's on my '04 with factory 18"s and they are "just" tucked inside the fenders. Although they do just touch the leafs at full turn, but barely. So if you can find a aftermarket wheel that is close to factory specs, then you should have what you are looking for. A wheel with 4.5" backspacing should be about right.
