Post 4.6L engine swap

my 69 has a 302 but i have grand visions of putting the modular 4.6L w/an AOD transmission into it. Unfortunately the 4.6 is 5 inches wider than the 302 at 29" header to header. All of my initial measurements (29" inner fender to inner fender) indicate that this swap is impossible. Even if i were to cut the inner fenders, there's no room for steering and the shock mounts may also get in the way. Overal length change is fairly minimal and can be overcome w/ drive shaft mods, but the width problem is pretty daunting. If anyone has information that this swap is possible, I would love to know the details.

4.6L engine swap

Everyone loves a challenge, but I got to ask, why would u want to do this? I like the motor in cars, but the head gaskets are finicky, and the electronics, hmm, dunno about how they will last on an old bronco. Your better off going to a 351 windsor or something. Lots of low end power and less wires.

4.6L engine swap

i was mostly drawn to the challenge and the fact that it seems pretty unique (after research, i now know why). i didn't just choose the 4.6L based on that though. i had a 97 f-150 with that motor and i love it. i liked the modular design, growing aftermarket accessories, fuel economy, and the fact that i could put a hole in my oil pan and still limp home. unless i can come up with any evidence that shows this swap can be done (for less money than buying another bronco), i think i'll just rebuild the 302. it's also a solid motor and already has aftermarket goodies (manifold, carb, etc.). it just needs a little tlc right now -- rear seal, piston rings, and head gasket. so i believe a PAW rebuild kit may be in order. recent mag. articles have given good marks to PAW and the price seems reasonable. now it's just a matter of finding time for another bronco project.
