hey, i got a '80 stepside f100 5Liter, it backfires through carb, (constant power valve replacement) i got some gooey stuff leaking from the duraspark box, do i need a new one? is this what's causing the problem?

Could be. I would try a new one or one from the junkyard.

It could be several different other things, but try the obvious first.
