Back from Camping Trip
Hit the two hill climbs on Route 12 from Geneva to Elkhorn without a problem. Managed to pull away and stay in front of an F350 dually diesel with a massive RV 5th wheel up both hills.
The integrated brake controller is the best improvement. Our old F250 with the aftermarket was hard to adjust and would lock the trailer brakes when almost stopped. Rough on the horse (and my wife). The new controller is smooth and don't even know the trailer is back there when stopping.
The transmission is very smooth, though found no or little response if I stomped the pedal after slow acceleration, even in the tow/haul mode. The expected response came when I gave faster acceleration. The transmission shifted quicker and gave the power. Really could feel the torque. Ford really made impovements to the transmission, stays in the torque band and very smooth. Very impressed when driving at 60mph less than 1800 rpm in the hills.
Appeared be be idling on the flats.
The fuel economy was 9.2 mpg round trip. I believe this is very good for a new truck with a close to max load over lots of hills. Of course expect it to get better with age.
A great truck.
Now you see what I have been talking about. Don't let anyone tell you the 5.4L V-8 is underpowered or doesnt tow well. I love mine.
We went camping two weeks ago pulling a fully loaded 20 foot camp trailer and a full bed of fire wood. The truck worked flawlessly cruising down the freeway at 70mph and crawling around the mountain roads. The round trip fuel usage was just under 11 mpg
FORD TRUCKS RULE!
