I am in the process of changing the fluids in the SD. I drained out the front axle and the manual says it takes 3.8 pints of 75W90. I put in 2 quarts and it is still well below the drain plug.
Is this normal or should I fill it to the bottom of the drain plug?
Also the 5 speed calls for Synthetic Mercon ATF. I can not find synthetic here, if I was to use regular Mercon would that present a problem?
Front axle holds 3.8 pints (2-pints to a quart) so 2-quarts should fill it to the bottom of the fill hole. Is the truck sitting on level ground both front to back and side to side?
Also check your axle codes and make sure it is a Dana 50 front axle and not a Dana 60. The Dana 60 axles hold 5.8 pts. Since your truck was exported to a foreign country it may well have a Dana 60 front axle or someone may have swapped one in at one point in the trucks life.
The synthetic transmission fluid is better, than dino, maybe you could order some online. But if you can only get dino then you will have to run what you can get. You may have to change the dino transmission fluid a little more often.
Hope this helps

I am not sure where the front axle is listed on the tag but here is the door tag.
The truck was sitting level, it is more than a bit low but not like 3 quarts low. I am fairly sure the axle was not swapped out. That would be very rare here, you would be lucky to see people change oil in a car once every few years. Thanks for your info.
Standard F250 with no modifications should have a Dana 50 front axle. As long as your truck is sitting level front to back and side to side, then fill it with gear oil until it reaches the bottom of the fill hole. This has been standard for years, and do not worry how much it actually takes.
