I think I'll go look at those heads tomorrow, I think it'll be a big time improvement to get the CR up to 8.8 or 9:1...I did find a pic of the chambers of the DOVE heads, I can definitely tell we would have better quench area...although without decking the block we can't optimize it.
PLus, even at 9:1 we could run regular unleaded at mild elevation without much issues or worries of detonation...worst case is we add a can of booster in it when we get to higher elevations.
Unfortunately, I don't have enough information to use them. How many CCs are the dishes in the pistons? Bore, stroke, head gasket bore diameter, compressed head gasket thickness, combustion chamber volume, and piston deck clearance, etc...
I think we're looking at a low compression engine unless we are willing to spring for new pistons and heads. How much ($$$) do we want to win?

Ratioe of the cylinder violume at BTC vs. the cylinder volume at TDC...
SO, there's some factors that we need to know to figure out what our ratio is.
We have to know the bore size, cylinder head volume (with valvws installed), the carnkshaft stroke as well as ho far the top of the piston is sitting within the bore...we also need to know the compressed head gasket thickness and diameter of the headgasket.
Just think of everything in the cylinder adding volume.
What I used on the CR calculators was:
D3VE heads at 95CC vs DOVE heads at 75 CC
I used the bore...4.36
Stroke at 3.85
Compressed HG at .025
Piston in the hole at .040
Piston dish at 28cc (seems to be what the rebuilder pistons are)
Main thing is, as long as we are withing 10% of the real world on stroke, bore, HG compressed, etc...and only change the 20CC for the head volume, you can see we go from the id 7's to the high 8's...a must have IMO.
PLus we're still no where (with our CR with DOVE heads) to even be concerned about quench area.
I read it fine -- and it shows why the 460 is such a gas hog. With that low a compression it would be a dog, but it is big enough to still have lots of power.
I think the DOVE heads are the best bang for the buck as well...dang, I'm talking like I know Ford or something...as soon as the guy replies and verifies I can pick them up, we're good to go.
Hopefully it's not another "flakelist" thing, can't tell you how many times that CL.org has left me hanging over the past few weeks...from big high dollar stuff to little pidly squat things.
I wonder if folks use CL just to get an idea if their stuff is worth putting on EBAY?
Just another update, I cleared my Dads shop somewhat and moved the project engine inside today. ALso have the 9inch 3rd member I got from Dan all apart, need to get the bearing numbers off of it (although they looked pretty good) to put it back together.
Just a side note, but man, I never realized how beefy the 9inch pinion gear is, that sucker is huge..guess I'd been dwelling in D44's for too long.
ALso, another "Ford" props, looks like it's a breeeze to set up as compared to all the D44's and the one D60 I did in the past, this just get's easier as I go
Yea, I got two 9 inchers to do - gear change, and make one a locker, and the other a limited slip. Not sure which one I will use, but want to play with both.
You need a gear set for yours? I have a couple of lower ones around, and am going to 3:10 ratio myself.
PS...we should make another thread, but it sure looks like rebuilding a 9inch is a peice of cake,,,maybe we could do a get together?, as long as eveyone brings thier install kits, I have all the other stuff here to make it happen (press, mag-base and nidicator, in/lb TW/etc)
Imagine me slack jawed in absolute confusion. What are you guys talking about. . . . ., I got really lost.
Sorry, it is off topic
What mike was saying is that he has geared his '36 to run around 2K RPM at 70 MPH.
It is more than just the ratio - the overdrive counts, as does the tire size.
I am running a 300six/C6 set up for towing - I want to turn about 2200 RPM at 60 MPH. That is the speed I mostly pull trailers, and I have no interest in exceeding 75 no mater what.
