Question which gauge?

I am thinking I should install an oil gauge in my cab, instead of the Low/High factory one.
As I start at 80 PSI cold, then down to at least 20 PSI when hot.
So am thinking which is the better way to go, a mechanical, or an electric one?
Pros, or Cons to selection?

For an inside the cab oil pressure gauge, you'll be wanting to use an electrical one. This way you're not running oil lines inside and creating a disaster-waiting-to-happen. That is unless you dig the whole hot-oil-bath-in-the-drivers-seat kind of thing. Lol. Not to say that it WILL happen, it just creates the opportunity for it to happen if you decide to go mechanical. So my $.02? I would suggest going electrical. Good luck!

I went mechanical about 6 years ago and haven't looked back. I liked the look of the full sweep mechanical guage better than the elec ones. Just be sure to have a high quality line made up, route it intelligently and you'll be fine with a mech gauge.

Thanks for the replies, I will have to go look in my pile of bits and pieces to see what is in there.
I know years ago I had mechanical ones, but not sure on electric ones.
But I figure anything is better than factory one.

i've been thinking of doing an electrical one... along with voltmeter and air/fuel if possible with carb (not sure if you can do that) ... volt meter because of the red lights i dont want to kill the battery if the alternator dies unknowingly. Where would the electrical oil guage hook up to? Partsman, where are you thinking of putting yours?>

The electrical sender would go right where the stock one is. I have seen the results of a hot oil bath and it ain't pretty. The pressure line can also break out under the hood and can drain your crankcase quickly.

The factory gages are fine for reference. I use a regular pressure gage out of my instrument box to check line pressures, oil pressure, etc for troubleshooting.

The OEM gages are easy to get working good. Check the Read First:FAQ thread at the top of the 73-9 forum for instrument panel repair info.

There is also lots of gage info in the truck forum and some in the electrical forum.
