Power Loss?

It seems like my truck should have no problem spinning its tires, but it does. If I'm on a flat, dry, tar surface with no sand I can't spin the tires. I've got 3.55s, auto, stock tires (28), EFI. Could it be because my tank was more than 3/4 full or because my tires still have probably 3/4ths life left and they are A/Ts? I was dissapointed when I mashed the pedal to the floor and the tires weren't spinning. Or am I just not doing it right and I am suppose to go 3/4th to the floor? I just want to be sure my engine is healthy, I've only got 80k miles.

What oi said.

Put it on a dyno for a definitive power check and save your tires.

Because burn outs kick ***! Duh!

Mine will spin them easily. Many stock 4.9's won't spin the tires. Don't sweat it if it runs good otherwise.

That's odd.. I can spin my tires. Nothing impressive, but I can. On 27' tires, 3.08's. Is it because of my gearing?

I don't know what the difference is. My 95 wouldn't think of spinning the tires and it had 2.73 gears. My unlce's 88 would barely turn them with 4.10's. Mine has 3.08s and will destroy the tires in cold weather, but not as much in hot weather. Road surfaces differ widely from on part of the country to another as well. In good air my Lightning will smoke the tires from a 45 mph roll, but most guys have to throw a lot of mods at their truck to make that happen.

You said; "Mine has 3.08s and will destroy the tires in cold weather, but not as much in hot weather." Duuuuuuude, what is up with that???? I love Ole' Betsy, but she runs a LOT better in cold weather. Can you or anyone else tell me why, and what I can do to make her run better in warmer weather??

I live in one of the most humid places in America, btw.

It's not that I want to spin them I was just checking if I should be able to because I've read different things about people being able to. In other words, just making sure my engine wasn't malfunctioning in the power department.
Thanks

Hot air is less dense than cold, that way more air is entering your engine in the cold making it run better.

i still dont understand how spinning tires proved if u have power or not. my cousins ol 1990 S-10 with a 4tech would spin the tires with severe blow by and a slipping clutch...

I figure if it can break the traction from the tar, then it has a pretty good amount of torque, especially since the truck isn't the lightest things. The 4 is a manual trans, mines an auto. Manual starts with a lower gear ratio because of 1st making more torque.

optikal, can't you remember back when you were a young shaver like Kalass. I mean he's got to be around, maybe 15-16? Ya got to start some where. A friend of mine has a son who did not know what a spark plug was at 16. It's a different world out there now.
