Power steering
Couldn't find anything with the search. Today I took the explorer to the carwash to vacuum it out. Noticed when at a stop, if I turned the wheel, I would get a horrible ratcheting in the steering. I opened the door and stepped out with one foot on the brake and confirmed that the tire was jumping/ratcheting as I was turning the wheel. This had no affect on the idle/rpm of the engine. The engine idled nice and smooth while the steering was ratcheting. Drove it around town for about ten minutes and went to see if it would do it again and nothing. Works fine now. I'm thinking maybe the power steering pump is crapping out or maybe something with the rack & pinion? Any thoughts? It has 75000 miles on it. It's under an extended warranty. I do have a little bit of a whine noise coming from what I think is the power steering pump area. I'm going to wait and see if it does it again. Any suggestions would be appreciated as I would like to help the dealer troubleshoot it if it does it again.

You sucked air into your power steering system. This will happen if you turn the wheels left or right with the engine off... also more likely if you're low on fluid.
Driving it around bled the air out.. so likely everything's ok.
