2004 F250 Psd Help Please

Hi all,

I have 29k on my truck currently. I tow a 6k lb boat during the summer and drive normal street/highway driving, nothing crazy. I am interested in changing the tranny fluid in the vehicle. I see the inline aluminum filter (right front) cannister.

Is it necessary to drop the pan and clean the screen?

The fluid is red as can be, but maintenance is my top priority. Any help would be appreciated.

Oh yeah....what parts will will need to be purchased and what type of oil does it require?

Thank you very much.

If your fluid is good, why would you change it.

I think it takes Mercon V but check your manual. If you will feel better with a new filter, change it.
The autoparts store should be able to tell you which filter you need. I think it is about $30.
My tranny took around three-four quarts after I dropped the pan. I would probably buy a few extras just in case.

Make sure you wait a few minutes and check your fluid level after the third quart because it is a PITA pumping fluid out of the dipstick :P

Edit: You can get it flushed for around $90 at a shop. I went the route when I bought my truck with around 100k on it.

Well like I said, maintenance is key. I guess over maintaining my truck may be what I do, but what the hell, it will last that much longer.

At what interval should I flush the transmission and/or change the screen in the pan?
