Superduty headlight Question

I was passing by a superduty today and noticed that it had different headlights than most. They looked like they were sunken in and mabey used a sealed beam instead of the plastic lens type. I thought that it could be that they were the very first superduties that came on the market but this truck looked brand new. Is that an option the get the old looking ugly looking light combo when you order your truck or does it come on the lowest option pakage that ford offers in a SD? Thanks Todd

It's the non-aerodynamic headlight. I only see them on fleet type vehicles, like municipalities order. I do find it odd, that ford would use 20+ year old technology when they could have kept the 99-03 headlights with a new bracket, but that's why they are engineers and I sell upgrades.

yeah I have those... they are the most hideous things that I have ever seen. just need some money before I can switch over. Just wondering if anyone knows what all I will need. I know I will have to change out my headlight plug. Is there any other things that I should know before doing this.

It should just be the headlights and plug. The last time I ordered the 9008 harness they listed for $75 each.

yeah I am cheap. so I will probably just go to the local yard and rip one out. and if I cant find one I will just go straight to ford since i get staff pricing there now.
helps to buy a lot of things from there

I don't think it will help much, I am wholesale on motorcraft from the state distributor and I have local dealer that has me on wholesale. I think they cost me $45 each a couple of years ago. Gotta love propriatary parts.

The XL trucks come with sealed beam headlights and a surround. This is because that is what the fleet owners want. When you are working the truck off road a lot it is much cheaper to replace the sealed beam headlight if it gets broken than to replace the entire plastic headlight housing. I also believe that the plastic headlight surround is cheaper and easily replaced as well.
