Question Red Wire

Hello all

Please Help!
There is a red coated wire hanging near the fuse panel of my 85 f150. The previous owner seemed to had it hooked up to the signal fuse (15A) The wire seems to be labeled gasoline oil resistor. Does anyone know where this wire goes or where it connect to?

Sounds like something added on. If it's disconnected, it's probably something he jerked off the truck before selling it.

Look more closely at the writing on the wire. Doesn't it say "gasoline and oil resistant"? That's just a description of the type of insulation the wire has.

upon tracing the wire, the other end is connected to another wire coming from the back of the carburetor. The carburetor is a 1bbl, so I have a black wire with a connector coming from the 1bbl connected to the red wire that was hanging by the fuse panel that is not connected. But was attached to a 15amp fuse, turn signal fuse.

Franklin2, I really do not believe it was attached to an accessory I read your post and looked at the wire again, but do not think it was an accessory.

Does the wire go to a round black piece on the side of the carb? If so, it sounds like the electric choke, and he might have put an aftermarket electric choke on it that required 12 volts to run it, so he hooked it into the fuse box. The factory elec choke hooked to the alternator white/black wire.

Hey thanks alot

that is exactly what is going on, it is an after market choke.

Any ideas on where I should hook-up for the 12volts, besides the 15 amp fuse?

Thanks again for your help

You can hook it back up were he had it on the 15 amp fuse. But what would work better is to make sure you hook it on the hot side of the fuse, and then buy a inline fuse with about a 10 or 15 amp rating, and use that in the wire to the choke. That way, the original fuse in the box will be for the signal lights, and the new inline fuse will be for the choke only. Less confusing if you happen to have a problem someday.
