just wondering, how easy is this mod to do? and what type of lights are y'all using? I see IPF, I've heard PIAA... btw, nice looking rigs
In my gallery I have a pic of a bracket I made out of 1 inch steel. The first bend is about 70 degrees at the rad support and about a 20 degree bend at the grill support. It sure keeps them nice and steady and it puts the lights right up against the grill for a nice look.
alright.. i've been searching and there are a LOT of diff manufacturers, types, ooutputs, etc.
anybody wanna chime in what they have, how much, and where you got 'em? i can start a new thread, but i figured i may as well post here since y'all have 'em thanks in advance!
I got my rear set at Auto Zone and my Front set at a local 4X4 Center. You can check Wal Mart and other stores,I just went out looking until I found a set I wanted
only place I could make it to last night after work that was open was wally
they had a few sets, all 55 watt. seems that is a little small... yes/no?
My front ones are 7 inch 100 watt lights I got them from a 4X4 center across town. If you have one there you can check with them and see if they have some lights that are discontinued which was how I got mine, also check ebay
Look for a light that you like, you can always change the bulb after purchasing. Consider the bulb type in the options. Better quality bulbs are a sound investiment anyway. Be cautious of heat with the higher power bulbs. H3s can be found up to 130 watt. H4 higher 150+ 130 on an H3 is very hot and short lived with a cheap bulb. I have a set of 130s I run in 9in lights since 98. cheap bulbs last 2 months, good bulbs 2 yrs.
I just got the cheap ones from Walmart, then put 100W bulbs in them. They are hot when they're running, like you can feel the heat outside of the grille, so I do not expect them to last really long, but the bulbs are cheap and easy to replace, so whatever.
Quite a drain on the charging system at times though.

I've also been researching this. Just gotta come up with the money
PIAA gets my vote. Im liking the looks/performance of the 540 and 520SMR.
I've got the Hella 500 in mine. Only 55 watt, but they are pretty bright (95% of the time more than bright enough for me). As others have said, expect a shorter life on the higher watt bulbs. Also, don't be too surprised if you damage the lamp one way or another (if it wasn't designed for them). Not coming to a stop with them on will help.
I like the Hella's as they are a good mix of lightweight (if you get much heavier you'll need a heavier bracket to prevent bouncing), good quality, fairly cheap (~$65) and they fit perfectly. I also prefer the slightly wider driving beam over the spot beams you'll get from most KC's (especially the one's available at local stores). Here's a pic at the Texas get-together.
when you buy the lights do they come in a kit for doing this or while i have to kinda rig it up myself im kinda modifying my truck slowly but surely i just put exhaust on it today and i have blue lights in the cab on the floor really makes night driving alot better
They will come with wiring, but you will have to fab some brackets up.
From looking at your gallery, if your truck still has the same grill, the bigger round lights won't work well for you. You'll either need to change it to a honeycomb style grill or use a differently shaped light. It will also have to mount quite a bit different than mine do.
How does blue light in the cab help night driving?
