'91 auto with a "clunk"

Looks like I'm fixin to inherit a '91 F150 and I don't know anything about them.
Where's the FAQ for this year range?

Automatic :( and supposed to have a bad "clunk".
If it's in the transmission, I'll soon be learning how to work on automatics. ;)
A friend mentioned the rear transmission mount tho.

Garaged and ~55,000 miles. :)

That's all I know so far, I've never driven it.

Can you point me to where to read, before I start asking my stupid questions? :)

91 with only 55k.....nice.......If it's an auto it's probly an AOD like mine......and LOTS of them "clunk" when they go into OD. I've learned how to drive it better and avoid that a lot.......but invariably it will do it on occasion. Not a thing wrong with my trans...it just does that and many others say theirs does too.
Do searches for "AOD"......."Trans clunking".....you should find some threads. I haven't read anything about the trans mount.

I'd check all the fluids and the trans fluid real good......then drive it.......if it's doing it around 40-45 under normal acceleration......it's probly fine. Be careful......the tires might be dry-rotted from sitting so much..........

Show some pics when you get it now.....don't be selfish........Good Luck

If you get this clunk on take off, it may be your slip yoke on your driveshaft. Mine needs to be lubed a couple times a year to keep it quiet.

I have the original slip yoke on my drive shaft and it's never clunked like those that have driven it describe. My '75 with a T-18made different than the '91 with an automatic?

I was hoping this problem would be common and be straight-forward to "trouble shoot" and so, have a good idea what I was looking at. :)

Oh well. :)

Kick back and let me get the pickup so I'll have some worth-while symptoms to report, if not the answer? :)

I appreciate the efforts tho! :)

If it is an AOD most of the time the "clunk" is caused by the TV cable out of adjustment at the throttle body.
It can also be caused by the anti "clunk" spring missing or broken, but this is rare.
