Thermostat Question
2) drain coolant
3) locate and remove thermostat housing. (usually where upper rad hose connects to engine)
*NOTE* some engines do not have thermostat housing, the thermostat is held inside the hose connector by pressure applied by a screw in the thermostat.
4) remove thermostat
5) clean mating serfaces of thermostat housing
6) insert new thermostat in Block/head/manifold with spring facing engine
7) install new gasket. (I prefer dry, but you can use just enough sealant to hold gasket in place, if you use enough to squeeze out, it WILL clog radiator/heater core)
8) install thermostat housing and torque to 12-18 ftlbs with aluminum castings, 18-25 with cast iron.
9) reconnect any hoses taken loose, check all clamps/pet***** and refill with coolant. (no less than 50% coolant, no more than 70%).
10) crank vehicle and check for leaks. watch temp guage carefully, if there is any air trapped in system, the thermostat may not open properly.
**NOTE** repeat step 10 for next 5-10 warming cycles.
