74' Bronco Half Cab. 302 automatic. Stock carb. Truck has a tendency to die when I go over rough terrain at fast pace. If I slow down (almost a snail pace), it doesn't happen. The engine bogs and then dies. I think it is flooding out but I've only smelled gas once. Do I have bad jets, dirty carb? Should I get a new carb or a carb job?
Correct air/gas mixture
Timing
Vacuum Leaks
Distributor,Wires and Plugs (Check for play in distributor Shaft)
Make sure carb is bolted to good
Vacuum Advance
Fuel Filter clogged
Bad compression
Spark Gap
Those stock Motorcraft 2 bbl carbs are bad about that. If you fiddle with it you can make it work. Make sure float level is correct, then maybe lower it a little. Try extending the bowl vent tube. If these don't work you may be able to find a spring loaded needle and seat.
I have a Holley 4 bbl and I have tweaked it over time to the point it will run fine with the truck almost vertical, most people think it is FI. Just keep playing with it and you will eventually have it right.
