I haven't posted on here for awhile, so please bear with me. My '96 ford f250 4wd diesel is squealing in reverse. At first I thought it was the rear wheel bearings, took everything apart, and $150 later, turns out it wasent them. Continued on my tangent and thought it was u-joints in the driveshaft. Bought 'em on a whim, started replacing those this morn, and played around spinning the driveshaft while the truck was in neutral (auto tranny), on jackstands, and blocked front wheels. I started hearing the squeal. After some nosing around, it sounds like it is coming from the transfer case itself. I don't know enough to know what to do next, and am running out of patience and dough with these trial and error tactics I seem to hold dear (haha). Any help would be gracious.
Are you sure its the T-case? If it is the T-case it should be squealing through all the gears if it truely is the case. Check your tranny fluids, Im thinkin you have tranny issues. Just my $.02
thanks for in info guys. I've made sure all the fluids are full. after I soaked the driveshaft u-joints down with blaster to replace them anyway, I spun the shaft again just to spin it, and it was silent. I guess it helps not to overreact to a little prob as if the sky is falling. chalk one up for FTE and the guys who write in to help guys like me to keep on the level. thanks again!!
