I have two questions that I would like to see if anyone could help with. First, in regards to alternators, do I need to run the alt. off the 87 SEFI 5.0, or can I just use the alternator that was in my bronco? Why I am asking is I want to know if I need the amps produced by the 87 alt. Second, I am using a manual trans, and I need to know if anyone has run into exhuast manifold clearance problems with bell crank for clutch on drivers side. The stock manifold for the 87 cougar I got the engine from would put the outlet right where the bellcrank needs to be. Has anyone ever took an older manifold and drilled and tapped if for the 02 sensor, is there a good location on an original 302 bronco manifold for the sensor? Thanks

There are a couple different optional alternators available in those years. I think the most common were the 70 and the 105 amp units. It should say on the case what one it is. Either way, its probably an upgrade for your alternator (if its a stock Bronco alternator, 37 amps is stock) The upgrade will help keep up with the EFI electronics, as well as any other accessories you may have. The pulleys will swap with one another.
On the exhaust, it probably won't fit. I know the factory HO headers will not work. I don't think there is much difference in the outlets of the two. I run a standard set of Bronco headers and have the O2 sensors in the collectors. You could probably drill and tap the stock manifold to clear. Or you could cut off a section of your existing down pipe on that side and have a bung welded into it.
And then have it welded back on once you get it running.
