fuel injector test

My #7 cylinder seems to be dead. There is compression, and a spark, but pulling the wire when it is running shows no change in idle rpm. I now suspect the injector. How is it tested? I don't want to just change it if I don't know it is bad.

Get an automotive stethoscope from your local parts store, the type with a solid probe. With the engine running, place the probe on the injector and check for the distinctive clicking which should be heard as the pintle seats. If there is no clicking either the injector is frozen or there is an electrical problem. There should be a constant 12 volts to the injector. The computer provides a coded ground signal to open the pintle valve. Hope this helps.

To save the expense of the "stethescope", we used to use a "bionic ear". That's a piece of old garden hose about two feet long.

Can I test an injector by connecting its plug to a light, or a multimeter somehow?
