idle problem

I have a '91 XLT 4x4 with a 302 EFI. After initial warmup, the idle will drop to about 500 rpm for a couple of seconds and die. Have changed fuel filter, pcv and checked plugs and dist cap.

I had the same problem with my 93 302. I am not sure how many miles you have on your bronco, but, I would have the fuel injectors cleaned and clean the throttle body, That should solve your problems, and you may want to have the sensors checked to see if they are giving you any fits...

Good luck

try swapping out the TPS, throttle position sensor
it will give you rough idle and hesitation

Definitely clean throttle bore around the butterfly valve and disassemble and clean the bypass (BYB) valve.

New Throttle Position Sensor fixed it for me. Make sure you get the right one though. The connectors are different on some models. Suggest Motorcraft brand, not Wells or Borg Warner. This also cures engine kills on A/C turn on. Shouldn't pay more than $40 for the TPS ($65 at Ford dealer!)

Sounds like a dirty idle air control valve. Take it out and spray it with carb cleaner. You will be amazed at the garbage in there.

Wow this is an old thread B). My dad is having this problem with his 1977 Plymoth Arrow. His is the fuel pump regulator not giving enough gas to the engine so we bought a carburetor rebuild kit. But yeah the fuel injectors should be cleaned and that is most likely your problem if it idles at 500 rpm and dies. It is probably starving the motor and since the 5.0 is fuel injected and doesn't run a carb, that's my best guess.
