AFter I drive my '98 F150 4.6 automatic tranny for about forty minutes and I pass a vehicle or run the motor hard in that time the o/d light on the shifter starts blinking and continues to do so until i turn off the truck. No funny shifting, no weird noises, gauges read normal, tranny fluid level is fine and smells okay....whats the deal?
if by code you mean count the number of blinks...it blinks at a steady non-stop pace until the truck is turned off....stays off when restarted adn then blinks again after I pass a vehicle and so on and so forth.
The blinking light tell's you there is a transmission problem.
It's not a true check engine light so the blink tells you to expect a transmission code when scanned out of the port below the dash.
There are so many 4 place/digit codes that it could not possibly be read by counting flashes and not lose counts and be accurate especially if there is more than one code present.

she's going in for an overhaul on monday i believe...i was waiting for the gmc to come back from the shop before i put this one in. In four days i shut down three trucks...go figure. The newest one is an '05 GMC Sierra (garbage, never buy one of these) that we got for dirt cheap from the dealer. Nuthin but problems from day one. Our '02 GMC Sierra 3500 dually with the duramax has continuous starter problems. My preferred bucket, the '98 FORD F-150 XL with 320000 kilometres on it, only started blinking the other day. This Ford has been the most reliable out of them all. Can't wait to get a newer one. Ford all the way baby!!
Lol. Only took me six months to figure out that ford had a replacement gear that stopped the annoying o/d light blink.
You can check the gear by pulling out your VSS and sticking your finger in the hole. The replacement gear has NO slop in it, so if the old one moves at all, replace it.
