Excessive Engine Pressure

Here's one for the EFI guys. My 86 5.0 EFI started running sluggishly about a week ago. It kept getting progressively worse, until one day while driving home I got frustrated with it, put the pedal to the floor, and figured either I would get home or the truck would blow up. Well, all of a sudden there was a loud boom, but instead of dying the truck ran great with the excpetion of some exhaust fumes getting into the cab. When I got home I found the AIR tube that feeds the EGR valve blew out. I replaced the AIR tube, the EGR, and the EGR position sensor and the truck started running like dog doo again. Thought it might be a clogged cat, and since I already have a a new high flow set up I've yet to install, I drilled a 1/2 hole into the y pipe in front of the cat to see if it relieved the pressure. No such luck. Did a code scan and the truck is throwing 34r and 13r codes. Any ideas?

Sounds like you have some sort of egr problem. For a test, block it off underneath and try it again. Code 34 is the egr error.

Code 14 is a ignition problem. You might want to check the wires to the distributor, and might want to try a new dist module.
