Neutral safety switch gone bad?

Hi all,

I have '98 5 speed, 4.2L, 4x4 with 80,000 miles. Been a great truck.
Last couple of days, it won't start at first attempt. Dash lights all come on but motor won't turn until I turn the key a second time.

Took up it to the dealer and they thought maybe it was the safety switch but of course it started up fine for them while they had it. At least they didn't charge me.

So I go pick it up today and sure enough on first attempt, no ignition.

Before I take it back, I wanted to see if you think I should just have them replace the switch or maybe there's some other problem.
Ideas?

Thanks
Mark

Your truck has a switch on the clutch pedal. So play with the pedal if you think that's whats causing it. With and intermittent problem like this, the best thing to do is jump the switch out temporarily. If you jump the white/pink to the darkblue/orange, then that will bypass the clutch switch. You can put the tranny in neutral and not press the pedal, and see if it will crank to make sure you jumped the correct wires.

Then try it for a few days and see if the problem goes away or not. It's hard to diagnose intermittent problems without just throwing parts at it and wasting a lot of money.
