How does extended warranty work?

Can some one please explain this to me? I looked into buying a Ford plan, but want to be sure I understand it first. If I buy a 6/100k plan does that mean I have an extra 6/100k after my 3/36k original plan runs out? Also, since I have a diesel, is the engine covered an additional 6/100k after the original 5/100k runs out? I hope I was clear, but I am confused. Thanks, John

the plan coverage is for 6 years total and 100k miles. the engine has the 5/100k warranty, the 6/100k will help with everything else.

First, you take one perfectly good warrenty from Ford (FMC) and you place it between two SD trucks.

Second, upon hooking up... you pull against like crazy and you "extend your warrenty" to the length you want it... as long as you do not break it.

There you have it... an extended warrenty!!!!

Oho wait... maybe he meant an "extended warrenty" like some drive an "extended cab" truck... then in that case, you have to order it already extended from the factory!!!

blockmanjohn,

Like BowTieHatr said, it only extends your 3/36 warranty to a 6/100K warranty. So at the end of the 3/36 warranty the 6/100 warranty kicks in and you get an another 3years & 64K miles of coverage from bumper to bumper(if you bought the full bumper to bumper package as there are different levels of extended warranty coverage). You are really getting a 3/64K extended warranty. The extended warranties have always been marketed as example 6/100K because All warranties start counting the exact minute the vehicle is sold and first put into service. Think of it as having two health insurance policies, a primary(3/36K) and a secondary(6/100K). The secondary only comes into play after the primary is no longer active. So 6years or 100K miles from the first date your vehicle was sold and put into service the 6/100K warranty expires. It has no effect on the 5/100K engine warranty.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the replies. So a 6/100k extended waranty doesn't help much with the original diesel coverage. Is it worth it ?
