Using manual lock hubs

My last two Broncos had auto lock hubs
and I'm not too sure how to use the manual
lock hubs...any watch outs (I've already run
into a tranny noise, apparantly because I
am not properly un-locking them)...how do
you know if they are wearing out, etc.?
thanks
George

Using manual lock hubs

i had an 84 with manuals......you have to rotate the hubs into the lock position(i think it is clockwise, but i'm not positive.....the hubs should be marked or look on your visor on the driver's side)....after you engage the hubs, shift into 4wd......you can shift in and out of 4wd with the hubs locked in, just don't exceed between 35-40 mph with the hubs locked in. When you are done with your 4wd excursion......you have to get out and unlock them.....opposite from the way you locked them in......i have auto lock hubs on my 90.....much more convenient.....when they don't stick....like what happened to me last week
