Automatic Transmission

After initial warmup period of some 5 minutes in 30 degree mornings, my 90 Bronco reverses normally and proceeds forward normally to the first stop sign. After that, still in Drive, I accelerate but it behaves as if it were in neutal. It is not moving. Naturally I engage reverse to roll backward to get out of traffic and in the next few seconds it re-engages and runs fine for the rest of the day. This has now happened on two consequtive days. Is it low on fluid or what is happening.

not a trans. expert but i would check your linkage if your cable is stretched you may not be putting the shifter arm exactly where it needs to be. when you have this problem next try putting a little pressure on your shifter one way or the other if it shifts thats your problem. if not have your trans fluid and filter replaced having it flushed would'nt be a bad idea either. you may have some junk floating in there. e

I have an 89 and my tranny has over 400000 "that's right" 400k miles on it. It's an aod with its 2nd 302 in front of it. I have this problem when my fluid gets low. Usually it recovers before I leave the yard but a pint or so seems to help. I don't want to overfill it as it blows fluid everywhere until it gets to the level that it likes. I have never touched the filter or changed the fluid. I don't recommend this but I have heard too many horror stories about failed transmissions after changing the filter and fluid after a tranny has 100000 mi or so on it. Try some fluid----- Good luck
