O.K This past week for about 2 hours a day I've been running wire for the DVD system that I purchased. I finally had all the wire for the DVD, FM modulator, Video amplifier / splitter and TV antenna; the only thing that I have to run is the RCA wires that go to the fm modulator and flip down monitor. The DVD has a four wire power harness:
+12V DC Batt
Ground
Ignition switch ACC+
Remote out
I spliced into the O.E.M radio ignition wire for the ACC+ which also has a switch so I can stop the power supply to the DVD, I ran a wire straight from the battery to the Batt+ wire, I spliced into the ground wire from the acc/lighter outlet, I ran the remote to a distribution block where it supplied the power to the FM modulator, video amp/splitter and the T.V. antenna.
Here is the problem, when I plugged the dvd and applied the power all I got was a very brief (half a second) of illumination and then nothing you can barely see a very faint light. This also happens to the power lights for the t.v. antenna, and video amp/splitter.
Is this too many add ons to the remote wire from the dvd? This connection provides +12V at .5A when the player is on.
Yes, that is too much draw from the remote lead, those items should be hooked up to ACC + supply. The remote lead off the DVD player is only intended to be hooked up to a remote input lead on an amplifier as a signal for the amp to turn on, not to power it or any other items.
Thanks for the info, that is exactly what I did. I left the remote lead exclusively for the monitor and sent all the other items to the battery wire with a on/off switch so I can shut the power to them when the system is not in use. I also removed the on/off switch that I had on the ACC+ wire, so there are no switches between the IGN & BAT+ wires leading to the DVD player. I noticed that the player worked much better with no switch between it and it's power supply.
Now I will start to run the wires for the flip down monitor to the remote lead, and the RCA wires to the video amplifier and it will be done. I will post some pics once it is completly done.
