Problems with 93 Bronco

Hi Guys

This is my first message here and I have to say that this is by far the best board for all models of Ford Trucks!! Very impressed!

I have a 93 Bronco with the 5.8 and 135K. I have been having reoccuring problems that I thought some of you knowledgable folks here could solve.

The truck always runs at the 'N' or below of 'Normal' on the temp gauge. I don't know what thermostat it has but I do remember seeing a TSB on this. Does anyone know what the solution is? Should I replace the thermostat to the 195F and see if that fixes it?

After I start it up in the morning (Seattle so about 30F) I hear knocking or pinging for about the first ten seconds after intial start up. It does not do this when it is warm. Could the pump or the weight of my oil (20W50) be causing the problem? Every morning I start her up, I think Iam doing some form of damage that will eventually cost me a rebuild sooner then I expected( have plans for this truck

Also, when I first start the truck up, oil pressure is at the 'M' in NORMAL but once it warms up, it falls back down to the 'N' and stays there. I should probably get a mechanical gauge and see what my pressure is at idle.

I was getting an EGR stuck open code (check engine lignt on and off perodically) rich code (due to the truck not warming up?)

I have found out that I have a clogged catalytic conveter so I am planning on replacing the ENTIRE exhaust from the manifolds back. I am debating on wheather to do a single 3 inch all the way back or 3 inch then dual 2 1\2 out the back. I am looking for a clean sounding muffler (not flowmaster) without drown, has a rumble idle, quite but when you hammer it, it should scream a like 351Windsor!!

Also while on the freeway in overdrive and around 1500 RPM, light throttle, the truck jerks or shudders. There is a TSB on this stating that the torque converter is slipping. Should I replace the torque converter? It has a tranny cooler and the towing package.

Lastly, the truck idles horribly but I recently replaced the fuel pressure regulator with a new fuel filter and it gets double the mileage then it used to. But it still surges up and down like a miss at idle. Any ideas?

I have an extended waranty until about 150K but only covers engine and tranny and diff. and transfer case but it a non Ford. Will Ford fix the truck under the TSB's through the warranty? Or must I have a FORD warranty?

Sorry for the length and all the questions guys

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again.

Problems with 93 Bronco

First of all, TSB are just that, they are not recalls, there is a difference. Next, if your cat is clogged, please, please fix that before you go further. A clogged cat will throw off any thing you attempt to fix related to fuel, spark & emissions. After that is done, then you can do other things. I would say the ruptured pressure regulator is what flooded your cat and caused it to melt,if it were ruptured.
