Get an A/C shop to do it. They have tools and experience you obviously don't. If you had the system open in any way, shape or form (leak or to work on it), the drier should be replaced, the filters checked and/or replaced, and a vacuum pulled. Then you have to get the right amount of oil into the system and the correct amount of refrigerant.
I've tried to do it myself before, it only ends up costing more. If you have a leak, don't think you can just keep putting in a can of refrigerant now and then--little leaks become big leaks.
Yep......do yourself a big favor and do what jroehl says. I've tried a few times over the years to re-fill A/C's and ALWAYS ended up going to a shop and having it done. Takes about an hour for them to test it, pull it down and fill it with the right amounts of oil and refrigerant. Then I have someone besides myself to yell at if it goes bad again too!!!..
