Hello all, i'm new to this forum. We've got an 05 6.0 F350 dually with 45k miles, and ever since the truck has been new we've gotten between 8-11 mpgs, both unweighted and pulling an enclosed 18ft race trailer. Its odd that the mileage never changes. This is what the computer is displaying, so i'm not sure how accurate that is. It seems like there is a big range in the mileage from truck to truck, and i was wondering what you guys have done to increase the MPG's. We're looking at either a banks kit or an edge box, with exhaust and intake. does this help or hurt the mileage further? Right now we're driving down the road with the cruise set on 75 pulling the trailer and we're getting a flat 8mpg's. We need to bump this up if we can.
Did you try doing the calculation for mpg or are you relying on just the trip computer on the overhead console? your mileage might be better than you think.
I get around 11 to 13 mpg city towing almost everyday (4500lbs). Taking our 1st road trip, empty, today - can't wait to see what kind of mileage we get.
Ok I took a little highway trip yesterday and got 20.8 doing 65 in somewhat hilly terrain. This is according to my scanguage. I've had it for 3 years and have found it to be very accurate. I didn't reset the overhead because I wanted to keep it set for the whole tank of fuel to get an average. If I can get 20+ on the hwy, I'll be happy.
One thing I would like to remind everyone of, idle time kills fuel mileage, plain and simple. If you let your truck idle for say 5 hours in a tankful, that is 4 gallons used not moving the truck down the road. They use .8 gallons per hour at normal idle. This is why I try to write down every time I let my truck idle so I can figure out my mileage accurately, as I do leave my truck running alot while on location.
I have been getting 18 to 19 back and forth to work which is 25 miles mostly 55 mph country driving. I got better before the ULSD. This weekend I pulled my 31 (34.9 overhall) toy hauler and got 8.6. This was terribly dissappointing. I was expecting 11 or better. Total weight was 18160 scaled.
