I was wanting to know every ones opinions on putting a 4 cilinder diesel with a 5 speed in a 93 explorer. I know I have to do something with the ft springs to handle the weight. I should tell you the drive line is out of a 79 chevy lov so It is around the same weight as v8
I wouldn't do it....your gonna be dropping at least 70 or 80 horses if not more, and getting probably the same mileage since that little 4 cylinder is going to be working it's a$$ off to get that explorer moving. It would be nice to drop a 7.3 in there, but I bet it would be rough to stuff in there....like shoving a 10lb turd in a 4lb sack.
Those things barely moved a Luv, let alone an Exploder with about twice the weight. You need a bigger 4cyl, like a Cummins 4BT(3.9). Possibly a Cummins 'A' could fit, they are a little smaller & lighter than the B.
A 7.3 would be nice, I was just thinking since I had the lov sittin around and the exploere had a bad engine and trans it would be a cheap swap but I did forget about the engine not realy wanting to move the lov around I may still do it Ill let yall know if I do something, thanks for the input
