Hard shift between 2nd and 3rd

This one is weird: I have a '90 F-150 302 automatic 2WD. My truck runs great, but lurches and makes a weird clunk sound when shifting between 2nd and 3rd. The sound is kinda like a u-joint but they are fine. Also, if i accelerate to about 2k rpm(or about 45-50mph) and then let off the gas, the shift is smooth. Any ideas?
