I've got a '93 XLT with the 302, 73000 miles. I've got a strange vibration at highway speeds, say 60 mph and higher. Had the rear driveshaft rebuilt, new u-joints etc. The problem did not go away. What else could it be? Something as simple as wheel balance? I'm still fairly new with Broncos, so this is out of my league. Any suggestions?
I had a problem with my 94 5.8.Except my vib not only occured at high speeds but also under heavy load. It turned out to be wimpy leaf springs in the back. I installed add a leafs and it's great now
I used trailmaster add a leafs.I think they cost me about $100. Beware that they will stiffen up the rear suspension and raise it up about 3"(even though they only claim 1 1/2") I ended up cutting about 4" off each end of the spring to level out my truck. I also installed new stiffer springs in the front (leveling coils). You can find alot of stuff in a JC Whitney catalog. I bought my leveling coils through them for $150.They didn't claim any name brand but when the box came it was a Superlift Box. After your all done I'd recommend a front end alignment.I love my truck with the stiffer suspension but there are people who prefer thier trucks to ride like cars. Plus I use my Bronco for towing.
Good luck
I have a 79 Bronco with 8 inches of lift, running 40's-two steering stabilizers-two shocks per wheel-replaced the tie rod ends-dissconected the front driveshaft-ballenced the wheels (as best as could be) and I still shimmy like crazy. The last thing I can do is the kingpins... BUT HOW? or is there something else I'm overlooking?
Well, I was able to fix my vibration by fixing something I thought was completely unrelated-I replaced my cap & rotor with a new Accel model. My truck always was a little "shaky" at idle, but it accelerated strong and smooth. But the constant steady RPMs of highway cruising seemed to be the culprit... new cap certainly changed that, and for $18 at Advance Auto. I'm new to Broncos, so this didn't occur to me to check it right away-I guess I'll change mine fairly often now!
