I have a 2005 f-250 with the built in electric brakes system. At low speeds (below 15) mph the manuel lever does not work, is this normal or is something wrong. The manuel lever will also not stop the vehicle totally or keet it stopped.
I know that on my '06 the manual lever works below 15mph. As far as the lever not stopping your truck/trailer. More than likely your trailer brakes are worn out or need adjusting. When I fully engage my manual lever, the trailer brakes just about lock up and once I stop it will hold the truck in place.
I want to say that the way your brakes are working is the way it was set up in 05, but in the 06&07s they fixed it. I am not sure though, hopefully someone else can come by and confirm that.
Well what I was told at the dealership is the electric brakes stop working at below 15 to 20 mph. They aren't sure why ford designed them that way but they are checking into a way of fixing it. I checked the trailer behind a vehicle that had an aftermarket e-brake system and they work great so it isn't brake adjustment. If anyone out there knows of a way to fix this problems let me know.
This was discussed before and as I recall they changed the controllers later on in production on the 05 models. My 05 was built 3/05 and my controller will work at any speed with just the brake pedal or the manual lever. I would check with your dealer and see if they can swap out the controller.
Let me know how you make out. My 05 has the older style controller and I don't like not being able to do a "pull test" when hitching my fifth wheel up.
I sure will. The dealership here is good but I don't think they will replace it without ford paying the bill. I will let you know the final. I have contacted Ford but no answer yet.
