do you have a lead foot? i do and my last fillup i got 15 mpg unloaded and i burn a lot of diesel (smoke) thats hwy and around town miles together! and my truck weighs 7600 lbs! if i tow my 5000lbs camper i get around 14.9 at 65-70 mph
So you only lose .1 mpg when you are towing? Thats pretty amazing.
No lead foot. I take it real easy and keep it under 2000 RPMs most of the time when I'm towing on the highway
I get 14.6 (just finished driving from Lafayette, LA to Farmington, NM). I got 13.8 with the canopy loaded pulling my car trailer from Edmonton, AB to Lafayette, LA. It is a 2003 7.3 4x4 CC bone stock.
So if I have a lighter trailer, a 2WD truck, and mods that should help fuel mileage - why do I get significantly less mileage?
The world may never know. Empty I get 15.5 on the highway at 70 (and my hubs have been locked since I bought the truck), 13 pulling my 24 foot flatbed (empty), and 9 pulling most campers. It doesn't matter if it is a 25 foot TT or a 37 foot fiver. It's the same (unless theres a head wind). I have gotten as low as 6mpg when I was towing a 30foot gooseneckwith four 20 foot car haulers on it. I was 12' 10" high and it weighed almost 18,000 lbs.
Well these are tubes that come off the left and right exhaust manifolds and feed the turbo throught the turbo collector. It's the engines exhaust though these up-pipes which spools the turbo. Mine were leaking and had low boost!
Wow don't feel so bad about my milage after listening to all of you . I am getting consistant 17mpg @75mph highway and around 14mpg city. I am completely stock except missing the muffler and running B20.
I'm not doing much better over here. 13 mpg on the highway. I have installed stage 3 Hybrids single shot injectors, BB turbo, Di chip,6637 air fliter, new fuel filter, fpr kit ,also the new 17 oil Pump and valve cover gaskets along with new glow-plugs. I checked and replaced the ebpv sensors, and cleaned the man/pipe to the sensor etc. I've also done the Blue CPS. I've even replaced the pcm in the hopes that a new and updated unit might help. I've checked and double checked IC connections at every connection too. No boost leaks no oil leaks no fluid leaks what so ever. I also do all of my own maitenance and repairs. So the filters and oil are done at the proper intervals, or as needed. Nothing has helped me with my fuel mileage. I do know for a fact that I'm tapping out my stock fuel pump with the mods I've done. I've just been to busy to install new fass/sys just yet. But my fuel mileage was and has always been the same even before the mods.I know there is something that I have probably missed, but it's just been trial and error for me. Sooner or later I'll hit it. And with all the stuff I've changed I should'nt have any future problems. My 2002 Excursion 4x4 gets twice the mileage of my truck. It's truely frustrating. I do have a heavy foot too. I have on several road trips set the cruise control at 65 to moniter any changes in fuel economy. It hasn't changed. I just don't get it!!! I do have an almost new truck though.. HAH HAH HAH.. She's a keeper. Take Care.. Country
