I have an old farm truck that sat for a while and got infested with mice/critters. So, I pulled the carpet (and threw it out!), headliner and seat, hosed out and washed the interior, but the smell still lingers. Searching I found "Odoban" as a possible solution and Febreeze to help. Does anyone else have a suggestion for getting out stubborn smells?!
If there was mice in the truck there is a good chance they were in the vents for the hvac system as well. So you chould probably pull the dash out and try to clean them out as well.
Good old fashioned white vinegar. Antiseptic. Cleanser. Deodorizer. Use liberally and wipe down with a fresh water/alcohol mix (50:50).
After giving the interior a vinegar bath, pour a goodly amount of baking soda into a bowl and leave it in the interior for awhile (the longer, the better), then go with the water/alcohol mix. You may have to do this a couple of times, but it does work.
Hey i had the same problem. i used one of those steam cleaners you see on those infomercials on what i thought was a clean seat and i got sooo much dirt out of it that i didnt even realize was there. I've had great success with this cheap steam cleaner and some papertowels

Awesome! Unfortunately that would only work on the seat...and that was the cleanest part of the truck!
So, I am currently gutting the interior. I have tossed the carpet and mat, the seat is out and the dash is opened up. I'm taking the opportunity to make sure any frayed/chewed wires are replaced and that everything is going to work after I put it back together. Thanks to all the replies...I am using a pet deodorizer to remove the rodent scent and it has worked pretty well. All HVAC hoses and the housing are pulled for sanitation as well I will update my gallery with more pictures soon...
I remember reading on an RV bulletin board about a refrigerator turning off and food rotting for 2+ weeks. They used newspaper and charcoal inside of it for a weeks and it removed the rotting odor. Just another thought.
