I was curious if anyone knows what the oil pressure should run on my truck, it is a 1977 F-250 with a 400 CI/6.6 litre engine, C6 tranny and I only run it once in awhile for summer use if I get the chance, anyway, it goes low on the dash gauge, when warmed up.
So I have been checking with the guage I put under the hood and I find when first started it reads 80PSI, once warmed up it drops to about 20ish PSI, but if I blip the throttle from under the hood it goes quickly up to 60 when warm, so is this about right?
I mean it was concerning when I noticed on the dash that it would drop to the low side, but under the hood it was still around 20PSI and would come up.
Anybody know if that is normal?
It has been awhile, but I think the last time I put oil in it was a 15/40.
That's actually normal for your guage to drop like that, it drops when it's warmed up bec. the oil is warm making it thinner resulting in your oil preassure reading low, have you checked to make sure your guage isn't bad, i would also make sure that the oil is the right viscosity.
Thanks, I had an old cordoba, but when it went down in pressure that was the end of the engine I found.
This truck at least goes up in pressure when you rev it up.
So I was curious if it was an indicator or not.
