Why does the 4x4 making a clanking noise when the truck is turning and it also feels tweaked out when it does move. Never used it before and bought it used so dont know the prior history.

 

Could be a U joint in one or both of the knuckles in the front axle.

 

Yes it could be a u-joint bad, but keep in mind these vehicles turn quite sharp and you can get a lot if bind in the u-joints when you turn it sharply to either direction when in four wheel drive. You can check the front u-joints by grasping each piece of the axle and try to turn them in oppisite direction of each other. Watch for movement at the inside of the bearing caps. There is also a slip spline on the pass. side front axle by the differential that could be worn. As well check the front driveshaft out, u-joints and slip spline.

 

Did you put it in four wheel drive, high or low? and drive it on dry pavement? if you did..then it will be all over the place. Only use 4 wheel drive on sand, wet, or snow/ice conditions. Good luck and let us know how it turns out, AL M.
