Hello all First time poster here as I found the search was my friend.
I have a 93 f250 with a 7.5L(460) V8 and it's been giving problem for the past few days.
It all started leaving a jobsite when starting the truck it sounded like it was running on half the cyclinders, when I tried to drive away thinking it may clear up pressing the pedel more didnt really make it go anywhere.(hope I didnt lose anyone yet) This all started out of the blue, it ran perfectly when we got to the job site.
We've tested and replaced all kinds of things from the wealth of info I found here using the search. IAC, EGR test, no vaccume leaks and the tps seems to be working properly. Havent found a way to test it yet. There is a very bad idle almost like it's misfiring but being fed to much fuel. Not to mention the black smoke now coming form the exhaust.
I know 'check the codes!' That's where part of the problem is. Bought 2 different code readers to find out neither work as described. Tried the self test without reader also with no luck. The computer did try one time at the cycling of the relays etc but the codes never came up and it wouldnt even do that on the many other attempts.
Currently out of ideas so any would would be great!
I think I would worry about getting those codes pulled first. I've never heard of someone having so many failed attempts. Like Andy said, if you REALLY can't pull the codes you might just be dealing with a bad PCM. Don't waste your time and money on other things before you find out about that PCM.
Thanks guys for the help. It turns out to be the pcm. I tried every method to pull the codes with no luck. I guess the pcm crapped out and went into the 'limp home mode'. New pcm ordered, 2 days till it gets here. Good thing it was only a mile from home...lol
