ok here goes. ive got a 1989 E-350 7.3 diesel. non turbo, non powerstroke. the problem i am having is that after sitting for a few days it wont start. i check the fuel/water sep. and its half full. i fill it up, put it back on and while cranking it over, i give it a small amount of starting fluid and it starts right up and runs good. (i know your not sop. to use starting fluid, but i use a very small amount.) it will run good until i let it sit for the weekend and then it wont start again on monday until i do it all over again. please help. i dont want to blow it up by using the starting fluid. any help will be most grateful.
Bad diaphram it would not run at all. The is air getting in somewhere and allowing the fuel to back feed into the tank. There is a line that goes from behind your altenator on the fuel return side of the injectors to your filter housing. Plug that off best way is to use a fitting that is a cap. Then close the hose side off with a bolt (no threads they leak) hose clamp it off. The schrader might be leaking as well. Start there and then you will need to probably replace the fuel return lines and caps.
do you have a hand held vac. pump? disconnect supply hose from lift pump & connect vac. pump, it should hold vacuum. If not the check valves are bad inside. If you replace it you should double check the new one the same way!
