Sorry Jag, I can not help and should not post, but this sure brings back memories. As kids we installed a lot of the new style transistorized radios into our going to school cars - AM, of course. You had to spend real money to get a FM radio back in the days.
What I remember most is how many times we drew sparks and smoked things - I was helping my best bud and we even had a good underdash fire. His mother called the Fire Truck out, even.
We learned that the case of the radio could not touch the steel of the dash, and notebook paper was not a dependable insulator.
Good luck, and keep the phone number for the fire station handy!
OK guys, I found a converter at Sac Vintage Ford for $75. It's pretty hefty and comes with easy instructions. This weekend I'll be trying it our. Can't wait to go cruisn with tunes!!!! Jag
You sure it converts form 6v POs ground to 12 V neg ground?
PS, check the output wattge as well...my guess,( even if it will work) is that youll be limited to a standard AM/FM-4w radio...don't be hooking up the Fosgate 2000watt amps just yet!
What, no thumper music that vibrates the license plates off?
Yea, I checked the application and somehow thru the miracle of electronics, the 6 volt pos ground is turned into 12 volt neg ground. And you're right, I am only looking to power a simple cd radio unit without the major power. So, with any luck, by tuesday it'll be just like a party on wheels. Jag
