I've got Cherry Bombs on mine and it's just too darned loud - between them and the headers (and the screaming yellow paint job), my poor truck is a cop magnet.
I'm going to put Flowmasters or turbos on it in the near future.
Well i think cherry bomb will sounds pretty good are you talking about the real muffler type or the glasspack cherry bombs that are like a straight through design also known as a bottle muffler they crackle, pop a lot pretty raspy flowmasters are agressive loud
I got a used Flowmaster put on mine, I really don't like the sound of it. It took away from the actual motor sound, and added that hollow metal sound that seems to come with their mufflers. I think it's too close to all the newer trucks that have Flowmasters installed just so you can even hear the motor (noise for the sake of noise).
I liked mine better with no muffler, but too many cops out here, so I need to find something in the middle.
I ran a Dynomax a while back, and it had a real nice tone, not overly loud, but nice mellow but noticeable tone. The glass packs end up being pretty loud, and will get you noticed in not such a good way. Last one I ran I was accused of not having mufflers, told them to just take a look...
You can always run electric cutouts behind the headers and go to a favorite muffler to be quiet when 5.0 is around , and it is fun to throw the switch , friend had them on his exhaust and it sounded like a dragster when opened . He had a 2 into 1 into 2 . So he only needed 1 electric cutout $150 bucks or so a piece , or you could go manual and be labor intensive , no fun .
i run headers 2.5" pipe and single chambers comin out infront of the wheels one on either side and it is just plain loud and i love the sound of it. never gotten pulled over for it and i drive it like i stole it. it is 3 times louder than my 86 with a 5.0 with just the cat and 2 pipes comein out the passenger side infront of the tire.
I am running dual c- bombs on my 73 F-100 4x4 360 4 spd. The factory manifolds muffle the noise a little but the end result is a flowmaster sound with factory manifolds. (snap crackle, pop,) when down shifting!!!
Im running a cherry bomb on my cheap-o exhaust. It sounds "vintage" if you know what I mean. I like it alot. Get something shorter than 25" c- bombs for sure. I have a 25-er and its just too quiet IMHO.
