so theres only one spark after cranking and they key is turned back to acc. got a new coil just incase but thats not the problem. its an 80 f150 with a 351m. it has the duraspark system with the control module on the left side fenderwell. i read earlier that sometimes an ooze comes out of them? there is a liquid near it but havent taken the time to see if its just oil. i just replaced the engine and am tryin to get it started. Also i cant get fuel to the carb. the mechanical fuel pump that it came with looks to be new. i have all lines hooked up and there is gas at the fuel filter. ANy info would be great!
As far as the fuel problem, was this carb off a running engine, and has been sitting a long time with fuel in it? If so, the float needle is probably gummed up and stuck. Try rapping on top of the carb with the plastic handle of a screwdriver and see if it breaks loose.
Pull the distributor cap, and have someone crank the engine, see if the distributor is turning. It could be you have a broken shear pin in the distributor, or a faulty module.
ive tried the positive wire to the coil then to the battery to no avail. tried jumping the solenoid. tested coil and DS module. coil has 12 volts to it with key on DS has 12 volts with key on from one of the power wires but 8 on the other when cranking. was told it could be a possible ground problem or the pick up coil is bad. As for the fuel.....i took off the feed line to the carb and cranked it and there is no fuel coming out. fule pump "looks" new. theres gas on both sides of the fuel filter as well. so coil has power.... what makes it spark. this is the first time ive done a ford engine like this and its being a pain lol.
hey i am new to the site but your spark problem, i had on my 80 f 600 with a 370 in it drove me nuts for a week same thing no spark only one when i let go turned out to be the two wires that go to the coil, the copper wire inside broke and the wire looked good from outside until i pulled it and it was like a rubber band ,check those ??
