I Think I may have found the cause of that wandering feeling in my 93 f150...
Any suggestions? Or has It just become the parts donor for my 51 ****** truck project. (or depending on how you look at it.)

I remember reading on here about the crack...Never actually seen a picture of it...But apparantly from what I read on this forum, you can fix it..Or, let me say, IT can be fixed...Do a search and see how the other fellas fixed it..
Is that the frame where the steering box attaches?
Yes, the crack is between the rearmost mounting hole for the steering gear and the crossmember and extends almost to the top of the frame rail. This is on the inside of the rail, the steering gear has been removed.
Well it seems to me that your only option is going to be to jack up the left side of the frame right near that crack (pushing it together) and running a few welds down her. Maybe reinforce it with some steel plating if you can...
same thing happened to my old 89, you will need to line it up the best you can, then i put a steel plate over it with some hardened bolts, then put a few welds around it. worked good for me... good luck
OK so now you have me curious. I also have a wondering steering but not real bad. I am wondering if I may have the same problem because it is sounding like this is a common problem with these trucks. Did you have to remove parts before you were able to see it? My truck will be going up on jack stand tonight for an inspection. I guess I am lucky in the sense that my father-in-law is a master welder with a college degree in metal fabrication. This may also be why the guy sold it so darn cheap.

they make a kit to repair this problem on 73-87 chevy trucks as it was a common problem, but not sure if there is a kit for fords. weld it up and put a plate on it, get someone who is really good though, don't want to booger weld on something like this. you could box that part of the frame in also, just remember to give yourself access to the steering box bolts or anything else running down that part of the frame.
